The most effective treatment for spider veins is still the gold standard, which is sclerotherapy with any kind of solution. You can use either saline, sotradecol, polidocanol. I have found in my practice that using laser for superficial veins on the legs really isn’t a good method.

Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy (hypertonic saline) is the most common treatment for spider veins. A micro needle is injected into the veins and a medicine is injected that will ultimately cause the veins to stick together and seal shut. This cuts off the flow of blood. The vein then turns into scar tissue and fades away in a matter of weeks.

What is Foam Sclerotherapy for?
For larger spider veins, we may also use foam sclerotherapy treatment with ultrasound guidance. Foam sclerotherapy can help with the tiny spider veins that may have formed around your varicose veins. A micro needle is injected into the veins and a medicine foam is injected that will ultimately cause the veins to stick together and seal shut. This cuts off the flow of blood, the vein then turns into scar tissue and fades away in a matter of weeks. The reason foam medication is used as opposed to regular solution is because foam medication is not diluted by blood and effectively pushes it out of the way, this way much less solution has to be used.
Laser Treatment
Laser treatment may be used for veins that are very close to the surface of the skin or those that are located on the face. The way the laser works is a series of brief pulses of light are delivered through a small hand held laser into the targeted vein. This advanced treatment allows for a very precise amount of energy to be delivered into the vein. The heat introduced to the vein causes it to clot which in turn causes the body to absorb it.
